A few of these sources are listed below, but are only for discussion purposes and not as a diagnostic tool.

Lumbar Degenerative Disc Disease is one issue that present as leg and or foot pain. The pain is actually from a disc that has lost water in the body and is radiating pain down the leg. Typically, the pain presents as lower back pain, leg pain or foot pain, but it’s actually coming from a more complicated and problematic area.

Another original of leg or foot pain, as a specialist like Harvey Finkelstein could explain, is Lumbar Herniated Disc pain. This occurs when the disc that has herniated puts pressure on a weak spot in the disc, radiating pain down the sciatic nerve.

Other origins of leg and foot pain include Lumbar Spinal Stenosis and Spondylolisthesis. Learn more about these conditions to get the help that you need from a pain specialist in your area.

Acupuncture is an alternative treatment for pain management. In addition to visiting a traditional pain management doctor like Dr. Harvey Finkelstein, some people find success with Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and Western Medicine Acupuncture. TCM inserts needles according to a series of points on the surface of the body called meridians. The Western Medicine Acupuncture uses these meridian points and combines them with segmental and muscle trigger points.

Both of these types of acupuncture are aimed at reducing pain, reducing muscle spasm and improving the general well being of the patient. For patients with chronic pain, like those who visit Harvey Finkelstein MD, it may be worth exploring options like acupuncture.

Migraine headaches, a common cause of pain in both men and women, are often characterized by concentrated throbbing or pulsing in a specific area of the head. Migraines come in ‘attacks,’ and are often accompanied by nausea, vomiting and high sensitivity to light and/or sound. They sometimes follow warning symptoms such as blind spots, tingling in the limbs or flashes of light.

Many medications, lifestyle changes and alternative remedies are believed to help reduce the frequency and strength of migraine attacks, as well alleviate some of the pain. Each patient responds to the treatments differently, and many consult with pain management specialists like Dr. Harvey Finkelstein before trying each method.

Migraines are three times more common in women than in men.

Typically, migraine pain is limited to one side of the head. The throbbing pain usually lasts from four to seventy-two hours. Increased sensitivity to light, or photophobia, often accompanies migraines. The common treatment for migraine headaches is an over-the-counter analgesic and an antiemetic for the nausea.

Sometimes, the condition is not eased with these light medications. As the pain can be debilitating, many patients often seek professional from their doctor. Dr. Harvey Finkelstein, and expert in pain management, often encounters this condition, and is familiar with the various methods of easing the patients’ discomfort.

TMJD – Temporomandibular Joint Disorder – is often difficult to treat since it is not restricted to one
area of health care. Indeed, one may even visit a neurologist or dentist while seeking treatment for this
disorder. But Dr. Harvey Finkelstein has worked in this area for many years in his Pain Care Medicine of
Long Island and has had much success in aiding patients suffering from TMJD.

What happens with this disorder is that the temporomandibular joint is affected by many other joints in
the body which could result in larger problems including arthritis, dislocations and even developmental
anomalies. Dr. Harvey Finkelstein has developed a Botox method of treatment to combat this problem.

As a specialist in the treatment, management and control of pain, Dr. Harvey Finkelstein advises and
helps people with osteoarthritis (OA), a degenerative disease of the joints which is a source of pain for
many people. OA is the most common type of arthritis and involves the deterioration of cartilage in the
joints. As the cartilage breaks down the bones begin to rub together. This rubbing is the source of the
loss of movement, stiffness and pain which is prevalent in patients with OA.

There are several approaches a pain specialist such as Dr. Harvey Finkelstein can take towards managing
the pain associated with OA, from certain types of medications all the way to recommending surgery in
some cases.
